Gwangju City Expresses Regret Over Police Search and Seizure in Exciting Zone Project Gwangju City Hall exterior view.

On June 5, Gwangju City expressed regret regarding the police search and seizure related to the 'Yeongsangang Exciting Zone Development Project' design competition.

On this day, Gwangju City issued a statement under the name of the head of the New Vitality Promotion Headquarters, saying, "Regarding the city's key project, the 'Asia Water History Theme Experience Center and Nature-Type Water Play Experience Facility (Yeongsangang Exciting Zone) International Design Competition,' the court recently dismissed the injunction filed by a disqualified company to suspend the competition process," and added, "Nevertheless, we deeply regret that the police have undermined administrative trust through this search and seizure."

The city stated, "On May 22, the Gwangju District Court ruled that 'it is difficult to see any defect in the selection of the winning design for the design competition, and it cannot be concluded that there are any special circumstances requiring its invalidation,'" emphasizing, "This confirms that the court found no legal or administrative flaws in the international design competition process."

The city further stated, "We call on the investigative authorities to swiftly and clearly uncover the substantive truth of the case," and added, "We hope that, as a result of this, there will no longer be wasteful lawsuits over competition results that cause project delays and administrative inefficiency."

Meanwhile, on the same day, the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crime Investigation Division of the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency sent investigators to the office of the New Vitality Promotion Headquarters of Gwangju City and executed a search and seizure warrant in connection with the 'Yeongsangang Exciting Zone Development Project.'
