On June 5, Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation (KOMSCO) announced that it will release a limited edition of the "Bull Woodblock Print" (hereafter referred to as the Bull Woodblock Print), based on Lee Jungseop's artwork "Bull," starting next month.
The Bull Woodblock Print is the second currency intaglio print following last year's release of the Inwangjesaekdo Woodblock Print. It is being launched in collaboration with the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Foundation.
The Bull Woodblock Print is available in three sizes: large (including frame: 752x600mm, artwork: 590x435mm), medium (including frame: 503x414mm, artwork: 367x274mm), and small (including frame: 321x260mm, artwork: 260x197mm).
The Bull Woodblock Print can be purchased through KOMSCO's online shopping mall, as well as at both the offline and online stores of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art.
Currency intaglio prints are high-quality cultural products created using currency manufacturing technology. Lee Jungseop's "Bull," featured in the currency intaglio print, delicately recreates the emotion of the original work, which boldly and roughly depicts the dignified form of a bull marked by wrinkles that have endured the hardships of life. To achieve this, KOMSCO applied advanced "intaglio printing technology" used in currency production.
In the second half of this year, KOMSCO also plans to release the "80th Anniversary of Liberation Intaglio Print" in collaboration with the 80th Anniversary of Liberation Commemorative Project Planning Group, as well as the "Tiger Painting" with the National Museum Foundation.
Seong Changhoon, President of KOMSCO, stated, "Currency intaglio prints are works that elevate currency technology to the level of cultural and artistic pieces. KOMSCO will continue to collaborate with various institutions to promote the excellence of Korean culture to the world."
Meanwhile, KOMSCO also offers commemorative coins for sale at all times. The product lineup includes the "Current Banknote Set," which consists of four denominations of circulating banknotes (50,000 won, 10,000 won, 5,000 won, and 1,000 won) in a premium package, as well as the "Connected Banknote Set," the "Current Coin Set," and "Commemorative Coins." Each customer can purchase up to ten commemorative coin products through the KOMSCO shopping mall.
