"Presidential Election Failure Was Due to Pro-Yoon Faction Who Even Defended Martial Law"
"Immediate Resignation of Kwon Sungdong Is the First Step Toward Party Reform and Innovation"
Hyangja Yang, a former member of the National Assembly who left the Reform Party and joined the People Power Party, strongly criticized Kwon Sungdong, Floor Leader of the People Power Party, urging him to "give up your petty vested interests and step down before the party caucus." On June 5, Yang stated on her Facebook account, "I couldn't sleep after yesterday's disbandment ceremony," expressing her frustration.
She criticized that despite having lost power after only three years, there was no proper reflection, saying, "All those who have led the party so far should be kneeling and making a sincere apology to the public and supporters, but instead, everyone is just making excuses and trying to save themselves."
Yang questioned, "Why did we suffer the humiliation of handing over power after only three years?" and pointed out, "It was because of former President Yoon Sukyeol's absurd emergency martial law." She further criticized, "It was also because of the pro-Yoon (pro-Yoon Sukyeol) faction who not only enjoyed their vested interests by currying favor with the former president, but even went so far as to defend the martial law."
She emphasized that when there is wrongdoing, someone must take responsibility. She continued, "Former President Yoon can hardly avoid legal punishment for the emergency martial law, but Kwon, who was busy playing the yes-man beside the former president, remains consistently nonchalant." She further sharpened her criticism, saying, "He was the one who most frequently undermined candidate Kim Moonsoo, yet he even argued that we should emulate the Democratic Party for protecting their candidate to the end instead of shaking them."
Yang asserted that a defeated commander should offer his own head as an act of atonement, stating, "Far from offering their heads, Kwon and the pro-Yoon faction are desperately clinging to their petty vested interests." She pressed further, saying, "Kwon should have resigned at the disbandment ceremony yesterday."
She questioned, "How can we possibly achieve bold change and innovation under these circumstances? How can we even talk about winning next year's local elections?"
She went on to say that Kwon's immediate resignation is the first step toward change and innovation in the party, adding, "It is the minimum condition for victory in next year's local elections. The more Kwon tries to hold on, the more disgraceful it becomes. He must realize this before it is too late."
