Gangdong District Opens "Gangdong Sum;ter," a Multi-Generational Cultural and Welfare Complex

Daycare Center, Senior Culture Center, and Care Center All in One Place

Starting this month, Gangdong District in Seoul will sequentially open "Gangdong Sum;ter," a multi-purpose cultural and welfare space for local residents, beginning with the opening of the public Dunchon 1-dong Daycare Center.

"Gangdong Sum;ter" is an integrated multi-generational facility with one basement level and four above-ground floors, covering a total floor area of 4,657 square meters. It offers a wide range of welfare and cultural services for people of all ages, from children to seniors.

On the first floor, the public Dunchon 1-dong Daycare Center will be the first to open, providing safe childcare services for dual-income families in the neighborhood. Following this, the Our Neighborhood Care Center on the third floor will offer after-school care services for infants and elementary school students, helping to address gaps in after-school supervision and serving as a hub for local child welfare.

The Gangdong Senior Culture Center, located on the second and third floors, features customized programs for residents aged 65 and older, as well as various leisure and activity spaces such as workshops, a cafe, and an indoor screen park golf practice area. In particular, the "Dasi On_Gongbang" workshop allows seniors to learn skills such as woodworking and to earn income by selling their handmade creations.

At the "Dasi, On_Cafe," seniors can enjoy leisure time with peers and participate in barista training, providing opportunities to work as cafe staff. The indoor screen park golf facility operates by reservation only.

On the fourth floor, the Gangdong Cultural Center will offer a variety of educational and cultural arts programs for local residents, including the Gangdong Culture College and line dance classes. Each facility operates on its own schedule; the Our Neighborhood Care Center is open through Saturday, while the other facilities are closed on Saturdays and official public holidays.

"Gangdong Sum;ter" is intended to be a space for healing and communication where all district residents can find comfort and relaxation amid the busy city. The semicolon (;) in its name symbolizes the connection between different generations and cultures. Gangdong District plans to actively operate this facility as a community-centered space where residents of all ages and interests can come together.

Jeon Youngmi, Director of Administrative Support at Gangdong District, stated, "Gangdong Sum;ter is more than just a welfare facility; it is a community-centered space where residents of all generations and interests, from children to seniors, can come together. We will actively manage the facility to ensure that all residents can enjoy a vibrant life."
