Konan Technology is showing strong performance. The news that the company is strengthening its partnership with Rebellions to achieve self-reliance and practical competitiveness in domestic artificial intelligence (AI) technology appears to be influencing its stock price. The company is attracting attention as it is following the growth model of Palantir Technologies, which has a corporate value of 417 trillion won. Konan Technology is the only company supplying AI software (SW) for the defense sector on a large scale. With nine years of accumulated know-how and technological expertise, the company is leading the defense AI market. Referring to the model of U.S. AI software company Palantir, Konan Technology is also exploring the possibility of utilizing data in connection with hospitals and insurance companies.
The fact that President Lee Jaemyung pledged massive investment and support for advanced technology industries such as AI and semiconductors during his inauguration ceremony is also interpreted as having a positive impact on investor sentiment.
As of 9:23 a.m. on June 5, Konan Technology was trading at 37,950 won, up 12.78% from the previous day.
The two companies signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MOU) in August last year for joint research and development combining generative AI and AI semiconductor technology. They agreed to join forces to integrate domestic AI software and semiconductor technologies.
The combination of Konan Technology's generative AI technology with Rebellions' high-performance NPU has drawn attention, as it enables the establishment of an independent AI ecosystem based on domestic technology and, in the long term, aims to increase the self-reliance of sovereign AI technology.
The results of the collaboration are now progressing to the commercialization stage. Last month, Konan Technology launched its enterprise AI server, 'Konan AIStation Server.' The pre-installed Konan LLM operates seamlessly even on Rebellions' latest NPU, the ATOM Server. The two companies are currently conducting tests and optimization work using the Konan AIStation Server. Based on the results of future pilot applications, Rebellions plans to offer the Konan AIStation Server, equipped with Konan LLM on its NPU, to clients seeking to adopt domestic AI infrastructure.
A company representative stated, "By creating an environment where a domestic LLM runs naturally on a domestic NPU, we have confirmed the possibility of securing technological leadership in the AI market," adding, "We will continue to strive for self-reliance in domestic AI infrastructure."
The Konan AIStation Server is a generative AI infrastructure designed for use by teams or organizations. It allows flexible configuration of GPU, memory, and storage according to the number of users, and provides complete AI functionality in an on-premises environment without external connections, making it suitable for organizations where security is critical. Targeting real demand with its on-premises AI infrastructure, the Konan AIStation Server is receiving positive feedback in the market. Since its launch, it has received numerous inquiries from clients, and actual deliveries are underway.
Konan Technology is also planning to participate in the government-led large-scale AI development project, 'World Best LLM (WBL).' Having demonstrated its technological capabilities in the generative AI field both domestically and internationally?such as being listed in Stanford University's ecosystem graph with its Korean foundation model?the company is preparing for the project based on its diverse business experience and outstanding in-house research personnel.
Baek Jongmin, a researcher at Yuanta Securities, explained, "The government plans to expand the supply of AI services nationwide through large-scale public-oriented AX (AI transformation) projects," adding, "New orders for public AI software projects, including those from the Ministry of National Defense, are increasing."
He further stated, "In July, the government will select five national representative AI companies," and predicted, "Konan Technology is expected to stand out in the foundation model development category."
