The police have launched a compulsory investigation into "Reebak School," a conservative-leaning organization suspected of manipulating online comments.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Cyber Investigation Unit announced on June 4 that it has imposed a travel ban on Sohn Hyosook, the head of Reebak School. The police also stated that they are currently conducting a search and seizure of the organization's office located in Jongno-gu. Reebak School is suspected of forming a comment manipulation team and participating in public opinion manipulation.
To investigate the Reebak School case, the police have formed a dedicated investigative team of about 20 members, including the head of the Cyber Investigation Division. A police official stated, "We will thoroughly analyze the materials secured through the search and seizure and conduct a swift and rigorous investigation to determine whether any charges are warranted."
The Democratic Party of Korea filed a police complaint against Reebak School on May 31, accusing the group of violating the Public Official Election Act and interfering with business operations using computers and other means. The police conducted an investigation of the complainant on June 1. Previously, Newstapa reported that Reebak School was operating a comment manipulation team called "Jasonsgun" (an abbreviation for "Jayu Sonkarak Gundae," meaning 'the free finger army that saves the nation through comments').
