Jeonnam Province announced that it has launched a gourmet travel package in collaboration with Japanese travel agency Sanjin Travel and Korean travel agency Namhae Tourism, featuring honorary ambassador Shinkai Miyako. The first four-day tour, which began operation by June 4, received an enthusiastic response from Japanese tourists.
This package was designed so that participants could enjoy dishes personally selected by Shinkai Miyako, a medicinal and Korean cuisine researcher active in Japan, and a local Japanese travel agency, based on their 2024 familiarization tour.
The package was planned to attract Japanese tourists, taking into consideration that food is the number one factor influencing decisions to visit Korea.
The tour was conducted for about 40 Japanese tourists and included stops in Suncheon (Korean table d'hote), Gangjin (duck dishes), Goheung (Korean beef and seafood), and Yeosu (raw flounder and blue crab dishes). In addition, experiences such as a Ssanghwa tea tasting in Gangjin, a brewery tour in Yeosu, and a visit to a local agricultural and seafood specialty exhibition in Goheung were also highly praised by the tourists.
Shinkai Miyako stated, "The unique gourmet experiences available only in Jeonnam are gaining great popularity among Japanese tourists."
One Japanese tourist who participated in the trip commented, "It was my first time visiting Jeonnam, and now I understand why it is known as a gourmet destination. Thank you for creating such wonderful memories."
Shim Woojeong, director of tourism at Jeonnam Province, emphasized, "Through the planning of travel packages utilizing Jeonnam's diverse gourmet offerings, we will do our utmost to enhance Jeonnam's brand image as the origin of K-gastronomy and attract tourists from around the world."
