Jung Kimyeong, Mayor of Yeosu, issued a statement on June 4, congratulating Lee Jaemyung of the Democratic Party of Korea on his election and inauguration as the 21st President.

In his statement, Mayor Jung said, "The past six months since the imposition of martial law have been truly devastating days for our people." He pointed out, "Despite the difficult domestic and international economic situation, people have not been able to focus on their livelihoods, but instead have had to anxiously watch the turbulent political situation each day."

He went on to emphasize, "The Korean people's desire for democracy has shown rapid resilience through a mature democratic consciousness, and finally, we have created an opportunity for the normalization of the nation."

Mayor Jung also stated, "The launch of the new government is seen as a positive sign for overcoming the economic difficulties facing Yeosu, particularly those related to the industrial complex." He expressed his expectations, saying, "This will give further momentum to regional issues such as the upcoming 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo and the designation of the region as a preemptive response area to industrial crisis."

He continued, "Going forward, we will work even more closely and cooperatively with the new government to swiftly resolve regional issues." He added, "Through this, we will successfully host the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo, transform the industrial complex into a high value-added hub, and revitalize the local economy by restoring livelihoods."

Meanwhile, Mayor Jung bowed his head and said, "In line with the new government's policies, Yeosu will also spark a great transformation as we prepare for a new leap forward, rewarding citizens by becoming 'the real Yeosu,' the leading city of Jeollanam-do." He added, "I once again thank the citizens who always stand with us and support Yeosu's bold journey toward a new future."
