Jindo's Chopyeong Port Selected for 30 Billion Won Fishing Village New Vitality Project
Nationally supported projects in the Haenam, Wando, and Jindo regions of South Jeolla Province are being confirmed one after another, raising expectations for revitalizing the local economy.
Jiwon Park, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea representing Haenam, Wando, and Jindo in South Jeolla Province, announced on June 4, 2025, that "the bolting damage suffered by spring cabbage farmers in Haenam has been officially recognized as a natural disaster following discussions between the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Rural Development Administration."

The total number of farming households affected in Haenam County is reported to be 388, covering an area of 695 hectares. Park emphasized, "Haenam County is currently conducting a damage assessment until June 13, and I will ensure that the farmers receive government support until the end."
The "General Rural and Fishing Village Development Project" by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries in Bogildo, Wando, has also been finalized with a budget of 8 billion won. Park explained, "We have reflected as many resident requests as possible, including for the Jungri and Yeohangri village halls, senior centers, and community cafes."
Tourism resource development is also gaining momentum. Park stated, "We are simultaneously promoting measures to vitalize tourism in connection with the construction of the Nohwado Art Exhibition Hall (13 billion won) and the Soan Jinsan District Rural and Fishing Village Development Project (7.3 billion won)."
Chopyeong Port in Uisin-myeon, Jindo, has also been selected as a target site for the "Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project" with a budget of 30 billion won. Park said, "We will significantly strengthen seafood sales and promotion through the development of a tourist fishing port in conjunction with Sol Beach Resort and the establishment of a large-scale seafood complex center," adding, "I hope this will provide substantial help in increasing local residents' income."
Park added, "I will continue to do my best for the sustainable development of Haenam, Wando, and Jindo," and expressed deep gratitude to the officials of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, the Rural Development Administration, South Jeolla Province, Haenam County, Wando County, and Jindo County for their cooperation in promoting these projects."
