On June 4, Gwangju Mayor Kang Gijeong stated, "All citizens have brought about the birth of the Lee Jaemyung administration through their votes," adding, "As we move toward a truly happy nation and a genuine Republic of Korea, Gwangju will share in the 'responsibility and mission' that President Lee Jaemyung will bear. I sincerely congratulate President Lee Jaemyung on his inauguration."

Mayor Kang emphasized, "Gwangju achieved the highest voter turnout in the nation in the 21st presidential election, and is now making a fresh start with the birth of the Lee Jaemyung administration," and continued, "It is time for Gwangju to soar together with the Lee Jaemyung government, including the incorporation of Gwangju’s key issues into national policy tasks. We will steadily move forward with the new administration toward a stronger democracy."

On this day, the city hung large banners reading "Gwangjuya Nalja with the Lee Jaemyung Administration" on the exterior walls of Gwangju City Hall and Jeonil Building 245.

With a voter turnout of 83.9% in the 21st presidential election, the highest in the country, Gwangju City celebrated the election and inauguration of President Lee Jaemyung and expressed its determination to accelerate progress on major local issues. These include artificial intelligence (AI) and future mobility, the state-led integrated relocation of the civil-military airport, and the inclusion of the spirit of the May 18 Democratization Movement in the preamble of the Constitution.

In particular, the banners used both blue and red to symbolize the desire for national unity and harmony. As President Lee Jaemyung emphasized the spirit of "integration" in his inauguration speech by stating, "On top of the hatred and confrontation that have divided us, I will build bridges of coexistence, reconciliation, and solidarity to usher in an era of national happiness," Gwangju City also pledged to do its utmost to unite the divided people as one, focusing all administrative efforts on this goal.

Mayor Kang said, "Gwangju City announced the 'Gwangju Proposal,' which contains a blueprint for future development, and made every effort to have it included as a presidential pledge. Now, all that remains is to ensure its incorporation into national policy tasks," adding, "With the passionate aspirations of our citizens, we will devote ourselves to Gwangju’s development alongside the Lee Jaemyung administration to open a new chapter for Korea’s growth."

The city presented its vision for Gwangju’s future development together with the new administration, including attracting the National AI Computing Center to create the AI Model City - The Brain Gwangju, establishing a cutting-edge future mobility new town, enshrining the spirit of the May 18 Democratization Movement in the preamble of the Constitution, constructing a state-led integrated civil-military gateway airport in the southwest region, expediting the Gwangju-Daegu Dalbit Railway, and building a megacity in the southwest region.

Meanwhile, Mayor Kang emphasized, "President Lee Jaemyung has embraced the 52 million hopes and aspirations of the 52 million people, promising to revive the livelihoods of those driven to the edge and restore growth to create a happier tomorrow for all," and added, "Gwangju pledges that in every step President Lee Jaemyung takes toward a true democratic republic, the city will always be a great source of strength, carrying the hopes and aspirations of its 1.4 million citizens."
