The symposium was attended by over 200 participants, including Mayor Lee Kangdeok, Pohang City Council Chair Kim Ilman, Gyeongbuk Province Vice Governor for Economic Affairs Yang Geumhee, POSTECH Vice President Kim Jongkyu, as well as domestic and international experts from academia, industry, and research institutes, and representatives from companies related to future materials.

Since its inception in 2018 with the theme of "Green New Materials Industry," this symposium, now in its seventh year, has consistently received positive feedback from leading scholars and industry experts at home and abroad, establishing itself as a venue for international technology exchange.

This year, researchers from major synchrotron facilities in Australia, Japan, and Spain, along with leading domestic experts from academia, industry, and research institutes, participated to share the latest trends and application cases of next-generation future material technologies utilizing synchrotron accelerators and to discuss strategies for industry development.

In the morning session, Dr. Rachel Williamson of the Australian Synchrotron began with a presentation on "Applications of Crystallography - Accelerating Innovation in Pharmaceuticals and Materials Using Synchrotron Accelerators," followed by Dr. Seo Okkyun of the Japan Synchrotron Radiation Research Institute, who introduced "AP-HAXPES Research on Catalysts for Hydrogen Energy."

Additionally, Dr. Juan Velasco Velez of the ALBA Synchrotron in Spain explained "Utilization and Prospects of Real-Time Electrochemical Interface Research Using Beamlines."

During the afternoon session, domestic experts from industry and academia, including Hong Byounghee, CEO of Graphene Square; Kim Hyeri, Principal Researcher at Voronoi; Moon Sujin, Head of the Q CELLS R&D Center at Hanwha Solutions Pangyo; and Park Kyuyoung, Professor of Battery Engineering at POSTECH, gave presentations on the development directions of next-generation future material industry technologies.

Pohang City announced its plan to actively utilize the region's advanced research infrastructure to drive innovation and growth in the next-generation future materials industry, taking this symposium as an opportunity.

The city plans to enhance industrial competitiveness by attracting new material companies from Korea and abroad, and by promoting advanced analytical technology and convergence research, while focusing its administrative capabilities on building a sustainable future industrial ecosystem.

Mayor Lee Kangdeok stated, "Pohang, which has long driven the nation’s key industries through the steel sector, now stands at a new turning point as a leader in the future materials industry. We will continue to make the most of our advanced research infrastructure, including the synchrotron accelerator, to accelerate research and development of next-generation future material technologies and the creation of an industrial ecosystem, and do our utmost to ensure that Pohang rises as the central city of Korea’s future industries."
