On June 4, Daejeon City announced that it had been selected for the Ministry of Education's "2025 Partnership-Type Specialized High School Project," securing 4.5 billion won in national funding.
The "Partnership-Type Specialized High School Project" is a program in which key regional institutions?such as local governments, offices of education, schools, companies, and universities?collaborate to foster industry-specific talent and support these individuals to find stable employment and settle in local businesses.
For this project, the city formed a consortium with Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education, Daejeon Life Science High School, Alteogen Co., Daejeon Technopark, and Chungnam National University.
As a result, Daejeon Life Science High School will be converted into a specialized high school focused on training professionals in the bio sector starting in 2026.
The city plans to invest 7.5 billion won to proactively meet the on-site workforce needs of bio companies and to strengthen policy support at the municipal level to ensure effective employment connections.
In particular, the shared equipment room and open lab at the Daejeon Bio Startup Center, scheduled for completion in 2027, will be opened as practice spaces for high school students, supporting field-oriented education using advanced bio equipment.
Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon, stated, "It has been confirmed that when local talent is employed by local companies, turnover rates are lower and job satisfaction is higher," adding, "We hope that graduates trained through this partnership-type specialized high school project will grow into key talent leading Daejeon's bio industry."
