Gwangju Police to Conduct Intensive Crackdown on Illegal Two-Wheeled Vehicle Activities on Nights of June 5-6

Responding to Street Racing and Noise,
While Also Checking for Drunk Driving

The Gwangju Police Agency and the Gwangju Autonomous Police Committee announced on June 4 that they will conduct intensive crackdowns on illegal activities involving two-wheeled vehicles throughout Gwangju for two days, from the night of June 5 to the early morning of June 6.

This crackdown is being implemented in consideration of the tendency for street racing groups to be most active during late-night hours. A total of 166 police officers from the traffic patrol, traffic enforcement, and traffic crime investigation teams, along with 54 patrol vehicles and police motorcycles, will be deployed to patrol and enforce the law across the city.

The operation will focus on major intersections and locations where gatherings of street racers and reckless two-wheeled vehicle drivers are anticipated. Drunk driving checkpoints will also be operated simultaneously. Through the deployment of police at key points and visible police presence, the authorities aim to ensure traffic safety and minimize inconvenience to citizens.

In addition, the Gwangju Police Agency and the Autonomous Police Committee will conduct joint crackdowns, in cooperation with the Korea Transportation Safety Authority and local governments, not only on street racing with two-wheeled vehicles, but also on violations of the Automobile Management Act, such as noise and illegal structural modifications.
