Gwangju City will once again host a special urban picnic this year, offering citizens a unique cultural and artistic experience.

Starting with its first event at the Gwangju History Museum at 3:00 p.m. on June 7, Gwangju City will officially launch the "2025 Art Picnic." The Art Picnic is a family-oriented cultural and artistic experience program designed to allow citizens to naturally enjoy art in their daily lives within the city. Except during the hottest period of the summer, the event will be held every Saturday until October 25 at the Gwangju History and Folk Museum and the outdoor plaza at City Hall.

This year, under the theme "Time Slip Art Picnic," the event will be divided into three themed zones: Past, Present, and Future, each offering a variety of experience programs. In the "Past" zone, participants can enjoy traditional culture programs such as making traditional masks, trying their hand at traditional food making, and Hanji crafts. The "Present" zone will feature modern art experiences including collaborative murals, spray graffiti, and making pipe cleaner dolls. In the "Future" zone, there will be content incorporating advanced technology, such as digital drawing, augmented reality (AR) coloring, and making hologram projectors.

To encourage greater citizen participation, the event will also feature the "Time Traveler Stamp Mission," which guides participants to experience all zones. In particular, customized experience spaces such as a sensory play zone and an eco-friendly block play zone will be enhanced for families with infants and young children, actively encouraging participation from family visitors.

The city expects that through this event, citizens will be able to easily and enjoyably experience culture and the arts in the city center, and that the event will help spread a leisure culture where families can share cultural experiences together.

On June 4, Kim Seongbae, Director of Culture and Sports, said, "Art Picnic is an experiential cultural event that can be enjoyed not only by families with children but by all citizens of Gwangju. We will continue to expand programs for families with infants and young children, taking another step toward making Gwangju a 'city that is good for raising children' and a 'city where culture is a part of daily life.'"
