A fire broke out in an apartment in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju during the early morning hours, resulting in the death of a man in his 70s. Although the fire was extinguished in about 20 minutes, the victim was found in cardiac arrest in the bathroom.

According to the Gwangsan Fire Station on June 4, the fire occurred at around 2:41 a.m. on the 13th floor of an apartment in Gosil Village, Gwangsan-gu, and was brought under control in 21 minutes. During the fire, a man in his 70s, identified as Mr. A, was found collapsed in the bathroom in cardiac arrest. He was transported to the hospital but ultimately passed away.
The fire is believed to have started in the living room. Fire authorities were dispatched after a resident on a lower floor, who detected smoke, reported the incident. A total of 17 pieces of equipment and 53 personnel were mobilized. The automatic fire detection system and sprinklers operated, limiting the fire to burning 10 square meters of the living room and some household items.
The fire department estimates the property damage at approximately 3.39 million won. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the fire.
