Four Universities from Korea, China, Japan, and Malaysia Participate
The CAMPUS Asia AFIMA Project Group at National Pukyong University, led by Professor Jang Ho-geun, held the '2025 CAMPUS Asia AFIMA Four-Country Working Council' on May 29.
The council, held on the Pukyong University campus, was attended by faculty members from participating universities, including Nagasaki University in Japan, Ocean University of China, and Universiti Malaysia Terengganu. They discussed joint curriculum development and strategies for academic exchange and cooperation.
The CAMPUS Asia project is a flagship internationalization program of the Ministry of Education and the Korean Council for University Education, aiming to enhance the international competitiveness of higher education through joint and double degree programs and student exchanges among universities in Korea, China, and Japan. Since 2021, Pukyong University has participated as the lead institution, focusing on training experts in the joint management of fisheries resources and the marine environment in the East Asian seas.
During the meeting, participants shared the operational achievements of the project in 2023 and the plans for 2024. They also discussed the sustainability and expansion of the AFIMA program in preparation for the upcoming 'CAMPUS Asia MODE 4 (2026-2030)' project call, which will begin in 2026.
After the council, participants visited the Fisheries Science Research Institute (located in Gijang) and the training ship Baekgyeongho (at Yongho Bay Pier) at National Pukyong University, experiencing the university's educational and research infrastructure firsthand.
Professor Jang Ho-geun stated, "Through this council, the foundation for joint course development and long-term exchange has been further strengthened," adding, "We will continue to promote the sustainable growth and substantive development of the AFIMA program."
In accordance with the principle of rotating host universities, this year's council was held at Pukyong University, following Nagasaki University in Japan in 2023 and Ocean University of China in 2024.
