Guri City Overhauls Volume-Based Waste Bags for First Time in 30 Years... Easier with QR Codes

Guri City to Completely Revamp Waste Bag Design After 30 Years
Plans to Improve Volume-Based Waste Bags Using Pictograms

Guri City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Kyunghyun) announced on June 4 that, starting in July, it will produce volume-based waste bags featuring a new design that utilizes pictograms rather than the previous text-centered approach.

Guri City Overhauls Volume-Based Waste Bags for First Time in 30 Years... Easier with QR Codes Volume-based waste bags applied with a new design. Provided by Guri City.

This is the first redesign in 30 years since the introduction of the volume-based waste fee system in 1995. The new waste bags will minimize the previously complex text and apply pictograms to make them easy for anyone to understand.

First, the city will use and place its mascot, Poguri, and adopt images with diagonal lines over illustrations of cans and bottles, PET bottles, food waste, and batteries to enhance readability.

In addition, QR codes will be included to provide useful information related to waste, such as correct disposal methods for household waste, information on separating recyclables, and multilingual guidance on using the volume-based waste bags.

The new design will be applied to two types of bags?general and reusable volume-based waste bags?starting from the third quarter of production. They will be sold after the existing bags are completely used up, and the current bags can continue to be used.

Baek Kyunghyun, Mayor of Guri City, stated, "Since we are changing the design of the volume-based waste bags for the first time in 30 years, we focused on making it easier to promote correct waste separation and improving convenience for citizens when disposing of waste." He added, "We will continue to pursue citizen-centered sanitation policies to make Guri a cleaner and more pleasant city."
