The City Provides Administrative Support
Lee Minguen: "Branding Neighborhood Commercial Districts to Revitalize the Economy"
The city of Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, announced on June 4 that it will sequentially hold the "2025 Ansan Commercial District Festival" across 23 commercial districts within the city over a five-month period from this month through October.
With the slogan "Festival is Economy," this event is being promoted as part of a policy to revitalize the local economy and boost neighborhood commercial districts. The festival will be organized as a field-oriented event based on governance, led by small business owners, citizens, local cultural and artistic figures, and various neighborhood resident groups, with administrative support provided by the city.
The city plans to offer a variety of programs tailored to the characteristics of each commercial district and the needs of local residents, including performances by local singers, presentations by resident autonomy committee art clubs, busking and street performances, flea markets and experience booths, and discount events in connection with traditional markets.
In particular, the city will focus on supporting autonomous planning and operation by holding practical consultative meetings with participating stakeholders. At the same time, the festival will be managed as a joint event with organizations such as the Ansan Commercial District Revitalization Foundation and the Ansan Small Business Association, with an emphasis on increasing the length of visitor stays.
For the first half of the year, the festival will kick off on June 6 with the Dorisum Shopping District event, followed by seven events: Sarigol (June 7), Ansan Fashion Town (June 7), Gojanteul (June 13), Wongok-dong Merchants Association (June 14), Saemgollo (June 28), and Gubongdo (June 29).
After the first half of the events, the city plans to reflect the results of quantitative and qualitative evaluations?such as changes in visitor numbers, sales, and citizen satisfaction?into policies related to local economic revitalization and culture.
Lee Minguen, Mayor of Ansan, stated, "This commercial district festival is planned as an economic and cultural platform that will brand our neighborhood commercial districts and foster their growth together with residents," adding, "I hope this festival, held throughout the city, becomes a signal for local economic recovery that all citizens can enjoy and that brings smiles to our merchants."
