Set to Compete in His Favorite RBC Canadian Open
First Victory in 2019, Successfully Defended Title in 2022
Tied for 9th in 2023, 4th Place Last Year, Always Strong Performances
World No. 2 Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland is set to compete in his favorite tournament.
Starting on June 5 (local time), McIlroy will participate in the PGA Tour RBC Canadian Open, held over four days at TPC Toronto North Course (par 70, 7,389 yards) in Toronto, Canada, with a total purse of $9.8 million. Having already secured a career Grand Slam by winning the Masters this year, McIlroy will be aiming for his fourth victory of the season and the 30th win of his career at this event.
The RBC Canadian Open is a tournament that McIlroy particularly favors. He even skipped last week's Memorial Tournament, a signature event with a $20 million purse. After finishing the major PGA Championship, he is returning to competition for the first time in three weeks. McIlroy won this event in 2019, and since the tournament was not held in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he achieved the rare feat of successfully defending his title in 2022 after three years.
He has consistently performed well at this tournament. He finished tied for 9th in 2023 and tied for 4th last year, always posting strong results. McIlroy aims to secure his fourth win of the season at this event, overtake Scottie Scheffler of the United States in both total wins and the money rankings, and head into the US Open as the leader in both categories. The US Open, the third major tournament of the year, will be held over four days at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania, United States, starting June 12.
