According to the Changwon Fire Headquarters on June 4, the headquarters has stocked emergency supplies for heatwave response and is providing emergency first aid training for paramedics. In addition, the headquarters has further strengthened its readiness to respond to heat-related illnesses, especially between noon and 3 p.m., when such cases occur most frequently.
Key safety guidelines for coping with heatwaves include: refraining from going outdoors during the daytime, drinking water frequently, wearing cool clothing, and making active use of cooling shelters.
If someone nearby develops a heat-related illness, move the person to a cool place and lower their body temperature by applying cool water or ice to their body. If the person is conscious, provide water or an electrolyte beverage. However, if the person is vomiting or experiences changes in consciousness, do not give anything by mouth and immediately call 119 to ensure appropriate emergency care is provided.
Changwon Fire Headquarters Chief Lee Sanggi stated, "Excessive activity during a heatwave can pose a threat to life," and urged, "I ask all citizens to follow the heatwave safety guidelines so that everyone can maintain a safe daily life even during extreme heat."
