Left-Turn Lane to Hyundai Motor Company Entrance Removed
Signal System to Be Improved
Ulsan City is set to improve the traffic system on Asan-ro, which experiences severe congestion during commuting hours.
Since the Yeomposan Tunnel became toll-free in 2023, the average daily traffic volume on Asan-ro has surged from 28,367 vehicles to 33,509 vehicles.
In particular, during commuting hours, the number of vehicles per hour has increased by 15.4%, from 3,545 to 4,188, resulting in severe traffic congestion.
In response, Ulsan City plans to begin road facility and signal system improvement works starting in June, aiming to alleviate traffic inconvenience for citizens and ensure smoother vehicle flow.
The core of this traffic improvement project is to remove the existing left-turn lane in front of the Hyundai Motor Company Haean Gate and to add a U-turn signal at the nearby Seongnae Intersection.
Additionally, a new intersection will be constructed in front of the Hyundai Motor Company electric vehicle plant to disperse entry routes and reduce traffic congestion.
The city will also completely reorganize the signal system at intersections, taking into account the flow of traffic, to enable more efficient traffic management.
An official from Ulsan City stated, "This Asan-ro traffic system improvement project is not only aimed at resolving congestion in the Asan-ro area but also at preparing for the full-scale operation of the Hyundai Motor electric vehicle plant and minimizing inconvenience for citizens during commuting hours. We will continue to monitor vehicle flow and implement phased improvements going forward."
To minimize traffic congestion, some sections of the Asan-ro traffic system improvement project will be carried out at night. The contractor selection process is currently underway, and once completed, construction is scheduled to take place from June to September.
