Free Provision of Smart Doorbells and CCTV
for Single-Person Households
Starting this month and continuing through December, Mapo District in Seoul will implement the "Safety Equipment Support Project" targeting single-person households and other households vulnerable to safety risks, including victims of stalking crimes.
The support will be provided to 100 single-person households with a jeonse deposit of 250 million won or less (for monthly rent or homeownership, based on the converted value), 5 households that are victims of stalking crimes, and 22 households classified as vulnerable in terms of residential safety. Selected households will receive safety equipment free of charge, such as smart doorbells, home CCTV cameras, and door security chains.
As of the first quarter of this year, single-person households accounted for 48.7% of all households in Mapo District, a high proportion. The proportion of women, including foreigners, was 53.8%, the highest among all districts in Seoul. Accordingly, the district plans to introduce safety equipment to reduce the risk of isolation and exposure to crime, as well as to alleviate psychological anxiety.
Applications can be submitted via the Mapo District Office website or by visiting the Family Policy Division, and will be accepted until supplies run out. The selected households will have the equipment delivered directly to them.
Meanwhile, Mapo District is working to ensure residents' safety by creating secure restroom environments through the "Illegal Filming Citizen Watch Group" and operating the "Corner-to-Corner Safety Monitoring Team," which checks security facilities and works to create a safe environment for women.
In addition, the district has established a system for rapid response to emergencies through the "Mapo District Safety CCTV Monitoring Staff," which operates 24 hours a day in real time, and the "Safety App."
Park Kangsoo, Mayor of Mapo District, stated, "Creating a safe residential environment free from crime is a very important task directly related to the quality of life for our residents," and added, "We will continue to strengthen the safety net for our residents with a variety of tailored policies in the future."
