Hong Junpyo, former mayor of Daegu, stated on June 4 regarding the 21st presidential election, "The final desperate attempt through Kim Moonsu failed, and it is neither Lee Junseok's fault nor mine."
On Facebook that day, Hong said, "I left the party where I served for 30 years because I believed that no matter how hard we tried in the presidential election, it would be hopeless," adding, "That party is a diseased forest."
Hong also stated, "If Lee Jaemyung comes to power, there will be a request for the dissolution of the party on charges of rebellion and forced candidate replacement, and I thought that party could even disappear ahead of the local elections."
Hong said, "The People Power Party has been abandoned by the public because it has become a self-serving interest group," and added, "There is no future if it does not communicate with society and relies only on the elderly and YouTube."
