The Jeju Provincial Election Commission announced on this day that it had reported two individuals, including a person identified as A, to the police on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act for attempting to vote again on the main election day after participating in early voting.
Person A is suspected of participating in early voting on May 30 and then attempting to vote again at a polling station in Jeju Province at around 6:48 a.m. on the day of the main election.
Person B was also caught attempting to vote twice, after having participated in early voting on May 29 and then trying to vote again at around 8 a.m. on the day of the main election.
For voters who have participated in early voting, the fact is recorded in the voter registry, making double voting fundamentally impossible.
Article 248 of the Public Official Election Act (Crime of Fraudulent Voting) stipulates that voters who commit or attempt double voting are subject to imprisonment for up to five years or a fine of up to 10 million KRW.
The National Election Commission stated, "We will take strict measures in accordance with the principle of zero tolerance against double voting, which undermines the fairness of elections," and added, "We would like to remind everyone once again that those who have participated in early voting cannot vote on election day."
