Sticky Trap Support Project Worth 500 Million Won
Demand Survey Conducted by Cities and Counties Until June 5
Jeonnam Province has announced that, due to global warming and abnormal weather conditions, the population density of sudden pest outbreaks such as tomato pinworms and brown marmorated stink bugs has been increasing every year. In response, the province will conduct an additional demand survey for its pest trap support project to minimize damage to fruit and greenhouse crop farms.
The pest trap support project aims to reduce crop damage and ease the financial burden on farmers by attracting and capturing pests, thereby lowering pest density and providing effective pest control.
In April, the province provided the first round of sticky pest traps with a total project budget of 500 million won to 17 cities and counties, including Yeosu. This support covered 387 hectares of open fields and more than 3,100 greenhouse facilities. Through this additional demand survey, the province plans to provide a similar level of support.
Eligible applicants are horticultural crop farmers in the province who cultivate vegetables, fruit, or flowers and are registered as agricultural business entities. For members of agricultural cooperatives, 70% of the cost is subsidized and 30% is self-funded. For non-members, 50% of the cost is subsidized. The additional demand survey period runs until June 5, and farmers who wish to receive support should contact their local city or county office.
Yu Deokgyu, Director of the Food and Horticulture Division of Jeonnam Province, stated, "Recently, due to climate change, the timing of pest outbreaks is advancing and the scale of damage is increasing. Through this demand survey, we will actively support more farms so they can control pests early and reduce damage."
