Police Investigate Possible Drunk Driving
A man in his 40s, who works for a company, has been apprehended by the police in Ulsan on suspicion of causing a fatal hit-and-run accident.
On June 2, the Ulsan Bukbu Police Station announced that they had urgently arrested and are currently investigating a man in his 40s, identified as A, on charges of causing death while fleeing the scene under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
At approximately 7:07 a.m. on the same day, A is suspected of driving a sport utility vehicle (SUV) on a road in Sinmyeong-dong, Buk-gu, Ulsan, colliding with an electric cart traveling ahead, and then fleeing the scene.
As a result of the accident, the electric cart driver, a man in his 60s identified as B, died, and B's wife, who was a passenger, sustained serious injuries.
The police identified the SUV's license plate number by analyzing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage near the scene. After tracking the vehicle's movements, they urgently arrested A at his workplace 8 hours and 30 minutes after the accident occurred.
The police are investigating whether A was driving under the influence at the time of the accident, and are also considering applying for an arrest warrant.
