"Taking Responsibility for Poor Performance...
Voluntarily Resigns to Refresh Team Atmosphere"
Manager Lee Seungyeop of the Doosan Bears professional baseball team is stepping down. He is resigning from his position as manager just over two months after the start of the regular season, taking responsibility for the team's poor performance.
On June 2, Doosan announced, "Manager Lee Seungyeop has expressed his intention to voluntarily resign, and the club has accepted his decision."
The club added, "We are grateful to Manager Lee Seungyeop for leading the team over the past three seasons. Manager Lee made this decision to take responsibility for the team's disappointing performance this season and to help refresh the team's atmosphere, and the club accepted his decision after careful consideration."
As of June 2, Doosan stands at 23 wins, 3 draws, and 32 losses, ranking 9th among the 10 teams.
With Lee Seungyeop's voluntary resignation, the vacant manager position will be filled by quality control coach Cho Sunghwan. Coach Cho will serve as the acting manager starting with the home game against the Kia Tigers on June 3.
Former manager Lee Seungyeop took charge of Doosan starting with the 2023 season. He inherited the team after they finished 9th in 2022, and in the 2023 regular season, Doosan recorded 74 wins, 2 draws, and 68 losses (winning percentage 0.521), finishing 5th and advancing to the Wild Card game. Last year, they posted the same winning percentage (0.521, 74 wins, 2 draws, 68 losses) and improved their ranking by one spot to 4th. Although the team reached the postseason for two consecutive years, they did not achieve their target ranking of 3rd place, leading some Doosan fans to express strong disappointment toward Manager Lee.
In preparation for the 2025 season, former manager Lee stated, "Our Bears will be a 'complete team' this year and will show the strong performance of the past. I hope you will look forward to seeing Doosan never give up."
