An election campaign staff member who visited a school in the Jeonnam region and campaigned to students has been reported to the police.

The Jeonnam Election Commission announced on June 2 that it had reported Mr. A, an election campaign staff member affiliated with a certain political party's Jeonnam campaign office, to the police on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act and other related offenses.

Mr. A is accused of visiting nine third-grade classrooms at a high school in the Jeonnam region on May 23 and distributing copies of a business card for "Candidate ○○○." In addition, on May 26, Mr. A was found to have campaigned in front of the same school's main gate, telling students, "Have your mother vote for number 0, and your father vote for number 0."

It was confirmed that the presidential candidate Mr. A campaigned for was not the candidate from Mr. A's own political party.

The current Public Official Election Act stipulates that candidates, election campaign managers, and campaign staff are prohibited from campaigning for candidates from other parties or for other candidates whose constituencies are the same or partially overlap. It also prohibits anyone from visiting individual households for the purpose of election campaigning.

A representative from the Jeonnam Election Commission stated, "With the 21st presidential election just one day away, we will do our utmost to prevent and crack down on illegal activities."
