Seongnam Mayor Sangjin Shin and Osan Mayor Kwonjae Lee Agree to Expand Metropolitan Bus Routes

Two More Buses Added to Route 8301 from Osan Public Garage to Yatap Station
Two New Routes Established from Osan Segyo District to Yatap Station

On June 2, Sangjin Shin, mayor of Seongnam, held a meeting with Kwonjae Lee, mayor of Osan, in the first conference room of Seongnam City Hall and reached an agreement to increase and introduce new metropolitan bus services between Seongnam and Osan.

The target of this service expansion is metropolitan bus number 8301 (Osan Public Garage~Pangyo Station~Yatap Station), which currently operates between the main downtown area of Osan and Seongnam. The plan is to increase the number of buses from one to three and to begin operations in the second half of 2025.

The new routes will include metropolitan bus number 8303 (two buses), which will start from Osan Segyo New Town and connect to Seongnam's Pangyo Station and Yatap Station, as well as two customized commuter buses. The goal is to begin operations in the first half of 2026.

Previously, in April of last year, metropolitan bus number 8302 (two buses), which connects Osan Terminal and Yatap Station, was launched and is currently in operation.

This meeting was made possible as Seongnam City agreed to and actively cooperated with Osan City's request to expand metropolitan bus routes in order to address the commuting transportation demand to Seongnam.

Once the expansion of routes between Seongnam and Osan is implemented, Seongnam City will operate 2,677 buses on 235 routes (excluding customized commuter buses), further solidifying its position as the city with the largest number of buses and highest usage rate among the 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province.

Seongnam City is home to many areas with high concentrations of workers, such as Pangyo Techno Valley 1 and 2 and Seongnam High-Tech Valley. The daily floating population traveling to Seongnam for daily activities reaches approximately 1.23 million, so requests from neighboring cities and counties for expanded metropolitan bus routes are expected to continue in the future.

Sangjin Shin, mayor of Seongnam, stated, "Seongnam is a transportation megacity in the metropolitan area with higher bus usage than even the special cities of Suwon, Yongin, Goyang, and Hwaseong, each with populations exceeding one million. We will continue to do our utmost to serve as the backbone of public transportation for our citizens and to implement transportation policies befitting a true public transit-oriented city."
