SPC Samlip Restarts Plant Operations After Two-Week Shutdown, Excludes Accident-Related Lines

Partial Operations Resume at Siwha Plant Production Lines

It has been confirmed that some production lines at the SPC Samlip Siwha plant, which had been shut down following a worker's fatal accident, have resumed operations.

SPC Samlip Restarts Plant Operations After Two-Week Shutdown, Excludes Accident-Related Lines

According to the food industry on June 2, the SPC Samlip Siwha plant restarted operations on 19 out of its total 29 lines in stages on this day, excluding the 10 lines that are directly or indirectly related to the recent accident.

SPC Samlip had completely shut down the plant following the worker's death, but resumed operations after two weeks. At around 3 a.m. on May 19, a female worker in her 50s died after her upper body was caught in a machine while she was applying lubricant to a cooling conveyor belt at this plant.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor issued a suspension order for eight lines associated with the accident and, together with the police and other relevant authorities, began an investigation into the circumstances. SPC Samlip went further than the ministry's order by halting operations across the entire plant and cooperating with the authorities' investigation.

After completing safety inspections and improvements, SPC Samlip resumed operations on some lines at the Siwha plant on this day. The eight lines subject to the labor ministry's suspension order, as well as two additional lines connected to them?a total of ten lines?remained excluded from the resumption.

With the plant shut down, burger franchises supplied with burger buns experienced supply disruptions and other damages. Since burger bun production is handled by the lines that remain suspended, production issues are expected to continue for the time being.

The SPC Samlip Siwha plant has 29 production lines and employs approximately 1,180 people. This plant is responsible for about 30% of SPC Samlip's total production.
