Four Courses Including Geumdokkaebi Theater-gil
Advance Reservations Required Until November... Experience History and Culture
On June 2, Gwangju City announced that, in celebration of the '2025 Visit Gwangju Year,' it will operate a 'themed walking tour program' planned directly by cultural tourism guides until November.
For this program, cultural tourism guides themselves design the tour routes and present Gwangju's historical, cultural, and artistic resources in the form of stories. This is a new initiative that allows citizens and tourists to experience Gwangju's hidden charms on foot while listening to the guides' vivid on-site explanations.
Although the city currently deploys cultural tourism guides at 18 major tourist attractions to provide interpretation services, this is the first time a program has been offered in which guides lead participants on walking tours along routes they have planned themselves.
At a time when Gwangju is once again drawing attention as the setting of author Han Kang's novel "The Boy is Coming" and as a center of professional sports, this guided tour program is being recognized as a meaningful cultural tourism content that conveys Gwangju's identity and unique appeal.
The walking tours consist of four courses: Geumdokkaebi Theater-gil, Osaekgodam-gil, Gwangju Euidan-gil, and Gobak-gil. Each course takes approximately one hour to one and a half hours. The tours operate daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and require advance reservations. Citizens and tourists wishing to participate can make reservations by phone or email.
Lee Seungkyu, Director of the New Vitality Promotion Headquarters, stated, "This program will serve as a field experience linked to the curriculum for young people, and as an opportunity for visitors to understand Gwangju's history and culture. We will continue to develop programs that showcase the diverse charms of Gwangju by leveraging the expertise of our guides."
