On June 2, Gwangju Namgu District announced that the wrestling and archery teams affiliated with the Namgu District Office were each selected as recipients of public sector operation support in this year's Workplace Sports Teams Operation Support Project, organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism conducted a nationwide call for applications from local governments for the 2025 Workplace Sports Teams Operation Support Project. The purpose of this project is to modernize the training environment for athletes and promote the development of regional sports by improving athletic performance. The government conducted a rigorous evaluation based on the teams' competition results, operational plans, efforts to foster a human rights-friendly culture, and social contribution activities.

The wrestling team, led by Coach Park Hyunseo, who received the Coach's Award at the 27th President's Cup National Wrestling Competition, and Coach Park Samyeol, who served as the national team coach in 2024 and 2025, worked together with eight athletes, including national team member Park Seoyoung, to achieve outstanding results in various competitions.

In addition, the archery team, led by Coach Lee Hyunchang, includes athletes Lee Seungyoon, Lee Dongmin, and Lee Wonjoo, who were selected for the national team in 2023 and 2025 and have achieved numerous awards at national competitions.

As a result of being selected for this project, the district office received government funding of 80 million won. Namgu District plans to use this funding to purchase equipment and gear needed for team training, as well as to support participation in domestic and international competitions and training camps. This is expected to greatly contribute to strengthening the performance of both teams and improving their results in national competitions.

A district official stated, "Being selected for the project organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is the result of the consistent achievements and efforts of the Namgu District Office's workplace sports teams," and added, "We will continue to provide ongoing support so that athletes affiliated with the district office can fully demonstrate their abilities on both domestic and international stages."
