The Gwangju Christian Hospital Missionary Society announced on June 2 that it conducted island medical service at Soan Central Church on Soan Island, Wando County, South Jeolla Province, from May 30 to 31.
During this medical service, a team of 21 staff members, including specialists from four departments?otolaryngology, pulmonology, gastroenterology, and rehabilitation medicine?provided ultrasound examinations, electrocardiograms, blood and urine tests, X-ray examinations, bone density and InBody tests, blood sugar and blood pressure measurements, physical therapy, and nutritional IV injections. In addition, eight volunteers offered foot therapy, beauty services, and walnut pastries, while 19 medical students from CMF (Korea Luke Society) also participated.
Over the two-day, one-night mission, the medical team provided consultations for a cumulative total of 242 people, performed 736 tests and nutritional IV procedures, and offered 54 beauty services. Since many residents are elderly, the team ensured that they received comprehensive examinations such as rehabilitation medicine, ultrasound and blood tests, and nutritional IV injections. For a resident whose blood test results suggested acute leukemia, the team provided the test report and urgently advised them to visit a major hospital.
The staff who participated in the volunteer work said, "Although we visited Soan Island hoping to offer even a small help, we were deeply moved by the gratitude and bright smiles we received from the residents after the consultations."
