All Residents to Join Together in National Defense and Veterans Festival
Gijang County in Busan will hold the '2nd Gijang County National Defense and Veterans Appreciation Festival' on June 7 in the lobby and outdoor courtyard of the Gijang County Office to mark June, the Month of National Defense and Veterans.
This year's event, held under the theme 'Remembering Heroes, Connecting Generations,' is designed as a hands-on festival that honors the noble sacrifices of patriotic martyrs and fallen heroes, and allows residents to reflect together on the meaning of veterans' affairs.
The festival will begin with a commemorative ceremony at 10 a.m. and continue until 5 p.m., featuring a variety of historical experience programs such as a student soldier shooting experience, copying the Declaration of Independence, a hill recapture operation, and a military code-breaking mission. In addition, exhibitions, performances, and side events will be held, making it a festival where all generations can participate.
This year's festival will also feature exhibitions rarely seen by the public, including displays of military supplies and veterans' collections, exhibitions related to the Korean War (6·25 War), and a special exhibition commemorating the 30th anniversary of the reestablishment of Gijang County, adding further depth to the event.
County Governor Jeong Jongbok said, "Through this festival, I hope all residents will remember the sacrifices of our patriotic martyrs and that the value of national defense and veterans will be passed down across generations," adding, "We will work to ensure that veterans' affairs become a living, breathing part of our everyday culture."
