Daegu Regional Veterans Office Holds Various Events for June "Month of Patriots and Veterans"

The Daegu Regional Veterans Office of the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs (headed by Kim Jongsul) will hold various commemorative events in June, the Month of National Defense and Veterans, to honor the patriotic martyrs and fallen heroes, and to express gratitude to national merit recipients and their families.

On June 6, the 70th Memorial Day, a tribute will be held at the National Sinam Patriots Cemetery at 9:00 a.m., followed by a memorial ceremony at the Apsan Chungheon Tower at 9:55 a.m., attended by more than 2,000 people, including bereaved families and citizens. At 10:00 a.m., a nationwide moment of silence will be observed with sirens, providing a solemn time to remember the patriotic martyrs.

In the afternoon, the family of Colonel Naya from India, who died in action during the Korean War (his daughter and grandson), will be invited to Daegu Samsung Lions Park for a ceremonial first pitch and first hit event. This event is intended to reaffirm solidarity with the UN allied nations.

On June 7, a "forest wedding" will be held for three couples of national merit recipients at the Gatbawi Native Plant Garden on Palgongsan Mountain. This event, organized in cooperation with Palgongsan National Park, is for those who were unable to have a wedding ceremony in the past.

On June 14, the "Dalgubeol Veterans Culture Festival," Daegu's representative veterans culture event, will take place at the 2.28 Central Memorial Park. The event will feature various programs, including promotional booths for uniformed workers, an independence movement experience center, a flea market, and a music festival. Part of the proceeds from the flea market will be used to support veterans' families.

Other events scheduled throughout the month include the Award Ceremony for Exemplary Veterans (June 26), the "Independence Memorial Road" commemorating the 80th anniversary of Liberation (June 27), the 75th Anniversary Memorial Event for the Korean War (June 24 at Keimyung University), and a commemorative ceremony (June 25, co-hosted by Daegu City and 33 cities and counties).

Various benefits have also been prepared for national merit recipients and their families. Around Memorial Day, Daegu city buses (June 6), urban railways (June 5-7), and the Apsan cable car (June 6) will be free of charge. Admission discounts will also be offered at major local tourist attractions and cultural venues.

Benefits include a 50% discount at Nature Park, a 50% discount for the merit recipient and a 30% discount for up to three companions at Daegu Aquarium, a 50% discount at E-World, and discounted or free admission to home games of Samsung Lions and Daegu FC.

Kim Jongsul, head of the Daegu Regional Veterans Office, stated, "June is a time to remember the sacrifices of those who dedicated themselves to the Republic of Korea and to carry on their spirit," adding, "We will continue to work hard to ensure that a living culture of honoring veterans takes root in everyone's daily lives."
