Bukgu Gwangju Offers Free Mandatory Legal Education for SME Employees

On June 2, the Bukgu district of Gwangju announced that it will support employees of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within its jurisdiction to take mandatory legal education courses free of charge.

This initiative was established to reduce the financial burden on small businesses that have difficulty providing their own training, and to prevent fines that may result from employees failing to complete legally required education.

The program is available to employees of SMEs located in Bukgu. They can take a total of six types of mandatory legal education courses online, including: workplace sexual harassment prevention, personal information protection, disability awareness, retirement pension, and industrial safety and health education.

The courses are operated by HRDe Human Resources Development Institute, a professional institution designated by the Ministry of Employment and Labor, and will be available on a rolling basis until November. All tuition fees are fully covered. However, industrial safety and health education is limited to 150 participants. For this course, companies with between 5 and 50 employees may enroll up to 5 employees each, on a first-come, first-served basis.

This year, due to the expansion of the scope of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act, the number of available spots for the industrial safety and health education course increased from 50 last year to 150, and a satisfaction survey for participants is now mandatory after course completion.

To apply, applicants can refer to the notice posted on the district office's website and submit the application form and business registration certificate via email, or apply online through the HRDe Human Resources Development Institute website. For more details, contact the district office's SME Support Division.
