The Democratic Party has announced its intention to file a complaint against the prosecutor in charge of the Daejang-dong development corruption case involving presidential candidate Lee Jae Myung, accusing the prosecution of fabricating evidence during the investigation.
On June 1, the Democratic Party's Legal Committee stated at a press conference, "It has been revealed that the Daejang-dong case involving candidate Lee Jae Myung is a fabricated case created by the prosecution," and announced plans to file a complaint against the responsible prosecutor with the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials. The charges include fabrication and use of evidence, creation of false official documents, and use of false official documents. The complaint will be filed under the name of acting party leader Park Chan Dae.
The Legal Committee emphasized, "The prosecution's act of creating a non-existent crime through a fabricated investigation is a grave criminal act that fundamentally undermines judicial justice and public trust, and it can never be tolerated." The committee added, "By immediately filing a complaint against the prosecutor responsible for fabricating evidence, we will thoroughly uncover the truth of the case." They further stated, "The Democratic Party will pursue strong prosecutorial reform to ensure that such incidents never happen again."
According to the Democratic Party, the prosecution indicted the Daejang-dong group on the grounds that they undervalued Daejang-dong land, which was appraised at over 15 million won per pyeong, to 14 million won per pyeong, thereby causing losses to Seongnam Urban Development Corporation. However, according to the Democratic Party, Jung Young Hak, a private sector accountant involved in the Daejang-dong case, claimed in a defense statement submitted to the court on March 11 that he never created an Excel file with the figure of 15 million won per pyeong. In his statement, Jung reportedly argued, "It appears that someone arbitrarily entered the figure of 15 million won per pyeong into the file, conducted a separate business feasibility analysis simulation, and then printed out the results."
