Gradually Rising to '200,000 Won per Meal'... Crowds Flock to Luxury Hotel Buffets

Chosun Hotel 'Constance' Raises Prices by Up to 10,000 Won
Shilla and Lotte Hotels Increased Prices Since March

As food ingredient costs and dining-out prices continue to rise, major luxury hotels in Seoul are raising their buffet prices one after another.


According to the industry on June 1, Chosun Palace Seoul Gangnam, operated by Chosun Hotel & Resort, an affiliate of the Shinsegae Group, will increase the price of its buffet 'Constance' by up to 10,000 won per adult starting June 2. The weekday lunch price for adults will rise by 6.2%, from 160,000 won to 170,000 won. Weekend lunch, as well as weekday and weekend dinner, will increase by 5.4%, from 185,000 won to 195,000 won. The adult breakfast price will be raised by 5,000 won, from 70,000 won to 75,000 won.

Earlier in March, Shilla Hotel and Lotte Hotel raised their buffet prices first. At The Parkview in The Shilla Seoul, the Friday dinner and weekend prices increased by 6,000 won, from 192,000 won to 198,000 won. The children's rates for weekend lunch and dinner also rose by 6,000 won and 3,000 won, respectively. At La Seine in Lotte Hotel, the weekend and holiday price per adult increased from 190,000 won to 198,000 won. The weekday dinner price rose from 190,000 won to 192,000 won, and the lunch price from 168,000 won to 173,000 won. The weekday breakfast price increased by 2,000 won to 79,000 won.


The premium buffet 'Food Exchange' at Seoul Dragon City also raised its prices by an average of 4.6% starting May 1. The weekday lunch and dinner buffet prices increased by 5,000 won each, to 120,000 won and 140,000 won per adult, respectively. On weekends, both lunch and dinner prices rose by 9,000 won, reaching 159,000 won. At Grand Kitchen in Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas, the adult breakfast price increased by 5,000 won, and both lunch and dinner prices rose by 8,000 won each. Breakfast went up from 80,000 won to 85,000 won, weekday lunch from 165,000 won to 173,000 won, and weekday dinner as well as weekend lunch and dinner from 190,000 won to 198,000 won, each increasing by 8,000 won.


Despite these high prices, the number of people visiting hotel buffets continues to grow. In the first quarter of this year, sales at Aria, the buffet at Grand Josun Hotel, increased by 16.4% compared to the previous year. First-quarter sales at Seven Square in The Plaza Hotel and La Seine in Hotel Lotte also rose by 11% and 6%, respectively.
