On May 31 (local time), Kim started as the ninth batter and shortstop in the 2025 MLB regular season game against the Yankees at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California. He recorded a home run in the second inning. Kim reached base on a walk in his first at-bat in the first inning. In his second at-bat in the second inning, he hit his second home run of the season. With two outs and a runner on second base, and the team leading 8-0, Kim faced the Yankees’ second pitcher, left-hander Brent Headrick. On the eighth pitch, a four-seam fastball clocked at 148.4 km/h, he sent the ball over the right-field fence.

Kim made a strong impression by hitting a home run in his first-ever Major League at-bat against a left-handed pitcher, Headrick. Notably, the game was broadcast nationwide on FOX, a major U.S. terrestrial network, giving Kim a platform to become a national star. Kim had previously hit his first MLB home run of the season against the Oakland Athletics on May 15, and restarted his home run streak 17 days later.
