Automatically Analyzes Preferred Temperature and Sleep Patterns
Switches to Indirect Breeze During Sleep
AI Adjusts Cooling Intensity to Reduce Power Consumption
LG Electronics is launching the Whisen System Air Conditioner equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) features.
On June 2, LG Electronics will release the "Whisen AI System Air Conditioner," which features a radar sensor capable of detecting the location and movement of objects, as well as enhanced AI capabilities.
The new model uses AI functions that autonomously analyze and learn from customers and their spaces to provide: comfortable cooling that takes sleep status into account; AI energy saving based on customers' air conditioner usage patterns; and AI cleaning, which manages the air path inside the unit to keep it clean and convenient.
In particular, the system remembers the customer’s preferred temperature and automatically adjusts the set temperature. When the indoor temperature is high, it delivers strong airflow; as the room cools, it sends a gentle breeze tailored to the indoor environment and the customer's location, as detected by the radar sensor.
The Whisen AI System Air Conditioner uses the radar sensor to detect whether the customer is asleep and provides "AI Comfortable Sleep Breeze," which automatically adjusts the operating mode according to the sleep stage. Before the customer falls asleep, the unit sends air directly to their location for rapid cooling. Once the system determines the customer has entered a sleep state?detected by reduced movement?it switches to indirect airflow. After operating in indirect airflow mode for a set period, it further transitions to a soft breeze mode, which reduces both airflow and noise.
According to certified test results from the Korea Testing Laboratory (KTL), a recognized testing institution, the soft breeze mode reduces power consumption by up to 76% compared to the normal strong wind mode. This allows customers to enjoy a quiet and delicate breeze while worrying less about energy consumption.
The AI energy saving feature efficiently manages energy usage based on the customer’s air conditioner usage patterns. The AI learns from the remote control settings history and operation records, automatically adjusting cooling intensity according to the situation to keep the indoor environment comfortable while reducing power consumption by up to 30% compared to standard operation. Additionally, if customers set a monthly electricity usage target in the LG ThinQ app, the system predicts energy consumption based on usage patterns and helps them stay within their target. The radar sensor can also detect when the customer is absent, activating a power-saving mode in spaces where cooling is not needed.
The new model employs a variety of purification filters and components made from antibacterial materials, and meticulously manages the air path through up to eight stages, including heat exchanger cleaning, UV-LED-based UVnano fan sterilization, and AI drying. Notably, the heat exchanger cleaning function?applied for the first time in a Whisen system air conditioner?removes dust and bacteria by freezing and thawing condensate, then automatically dries the interior to maintain cleanliness.
LG Electronics has developed a slim built-in kit to make it easier and more precise to install system air conditioners in buildings with limited ceiling space, such as existing apartment complexes. With the slim built-in kit, the system air conditioner can be installed without additional work such as lowering the ceiling or manual molding finishing.
Because system air conditioners are installed in the ceiling, they do not take up floor space, making them highly space-efficient. Multiple indoor units can be connected to a single outdoor unit, which is increasing their popularity not only in commercial spaces but also in residential settings. Domestic sales of LG Electronics' residential system air conditioners have increased by more than 10% annually on average over the past four years.
Bae Jeonghyeon, Executive Vice President and Head of the SAC Business Division at LG Electronics' Eco Solution (ES) Business Headquarters, stated, "The Whisen AI System Air Conditioner will establish itself as a product that enhances quality of life by providing comfort and convenience to customers through innovative AI technology."
