Lee Jae Myung Proposes 'Quasi-Veterans Hospital' System... Pledges Proper Treatment for National Dedication

Lee Jae Myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate, stated on the 1st, "We will guarantee treatment befitting the special dedication made for the nation."

Through a Facebook post on this day, Lee said, "The freedom, peace, democracy, and prosperity we enjoy today are the result of the blood and sweat of our fallen patriots, national defenders, and democracy activists."

He continued, "The fundamental duty of the state is to honor patriotism with dignity," and added, "By recognizing independence, national defense, and democracy as the three pillars of veterans' affairs, we will improve awareness and treatment, and provide honors appropriate to their dedication."

He also stated, "We will open the path to national unity through veterans' affairs that transcend politics and ideology," and added, "We will normalize the status and functions of the National Veterans Affairs Commission to ensure the neutrality of veterans' policies, and appoint executives of veterans' public institutions, such as the Independence Hall of Korea, by considering their representativeness and historical significance."

Additionally, he said, "We will ensure that veterans' events become venues for national unity where all generations participate," and emphasized, "We will thoroughly prepare for the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day, making it an opportunity to set history right."

Lee also proposed the introduction of a 'quasi-veterans hospital' system. He stated, "We will meticulously care for the health of national merit recipients," and explained, "In regions without veterans' hospitals, we will implement a 'quasi-veterans hospital' system that utilizes public hospitals to provide medical benefits equivalent to those of veterans' hospitals."

He further pledged, "We will increase the number of specialized medical staff at veterans' hospitals, modernize facilities and equipment to improve the quality of medical services, and expand and reorganize the home visit medical service of veterans' hospitals to strengthen the healthcare system for those with mobility difficulties."

Lee stated, "We will restructure the veterans' compensation and allowance system to provide realistic compensation that meets public expectations," and added, "We will rationally improve the eligibility for dependent family allowances and pursue additional increases in compensation for those with lower disability grades."

He emphasized, "We will ensure that, after the passing of a war veteran, low-income elderly surviving family members do not face livelihood concerns due to the discontinuation of government support," and added, "We will reduce disparities in veterans' honor allowances between local governments and prepare comprehensive, tailored measures for elderly national merit recipients."
