Building a Real-Time Safety Network
Through Smartphone Integration
Seongdong District in Seoul has expanded the installation of the "Walking Trail Crime Prevention System" to 304 points across 55 locations within the district, aiming to create a safer living environment free from crime.
The "Walking Trail Crime Prevention System" is a policy first introduced nationwide by Seongdong District to alleviate residents' anxiety and prevent crime, amid an increase in violent crimes and crimes with abnormal motives targeting unspecified individuals.

By scanning the QR code on the information sign with a smartphone, users are connected to the Seongdong District Office Integrated Control Center, enabling real-time monitoring and immediate emergency response. Residents can also use the system at any time by calling the main number or saving the shortcut to the relevant webpage, which is posted on the district office website, on their smartphones.
With this additional installation, luminous information signs and banners have also been set up in areas where residents feel unsafe when returning home at night, such as Jungnangcheon, Jeonnong Ecological Stream, near Muhak Girls' High School, Doseon-dong, and residential areas along Muhakbong-gil. This year, 25 new points at 5 locations have been added to the existing 279 points at 50 locations where unmanned closed-circuit (CC)TVs were not previously installed, bringing the total to 304 points in operation.
The system has recorded a cumulative total of 1,443 accesses, and since there have been no cases that escalated into actual emergencies, it has proven to be highly effective in crime prevention. The district selected installation sites through demand surveys in cooperation with the police and other organizations, and has improved the system by adding real-time voice communication and an emergency alarm (whistle sound) function to enable swift response in urgent situations.
Jung Wonoh, Mayor of Seongdong District, stated, "We have expanded the installation of the 'Walking Trail Crime Prevention System' so that residents can feel less anxious about various crimes and enjoy an even safer and more comfortable daily life." He added, "We will continue to make every effort to create a city of Seongdong without safety blind spots, based on smart, life-oriented technology."
