The story of a British man who was diagnosed with prediabetes and managed to lose 25kg in just nine months by drinking green tea and exercising consistently, regaining his health, has attracted attention.

Recently, local media outlets such as The Mirror in the UK reported on the story of Graham Lowe, 59, who lives in Four Oaks near Birmingham. Last year, Lowe visited the hospital due to pain in his right side and was diagnosed with prediabetes, a condition that can develop into type 2 diabetes.


He said, "My father had type 2 diabetes. I saw firsthand how much it made life difficult, so I did not want to follow in his footsteps." He added that after his blood sugar test, he took immediate action to prevent the condition from worsening into diabetes.


Afterwards, at the recommendation of his primary care physician, Lowe enrolled in the 'Healthier You Programme' run by the UK's National Health Service (NHS), where he began receiving personalized digital health management support.


He said, "I started attending sessions and following advice that brought significant changes to my diet and activity levels. Since joining the program, I have cut out sugary foods and started exercising regularly." He also emphasized, "I used to bring donuts to work, but now I drink green tea instead."

In nine months, Lowe reduced his weight from 110kg to 85kg, losing a total of 25kg, and his blood sugar and cholesterol levels also returned to normal. He advised, "If you are experiencing symptoms such as fatigue or thirst, I recommend getting tested for diabetes," and added, "Health needs to be managed regularly, just like a car." He continued, "We never neglect car maintenance, so there is no reason to neglect our health either."


Green tea is well known as a beverage that can enhance the efficiency of dieting. In particular, catechins found in green tea have antioxidant properties and help burn fat, which can aid in weight loss. Among them, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), when consumed with caffeine, is known to promote calorie expenditure. Warm green tea also plays a positive role in suppressing appetite and maintaining a feeling of fullness.
