Jay Y Lee Continues "Talent First" Philosophy of Predecessors
Over 50 Executives from Samsung and Affiliates Gather for Ceremony
Samsung Electronics Chairman Jay Y Lee made a personal appearance at the Samsung Hoam Prize awards ceremony.
On the afternoon of the 30th, Chairman Lee visited the Shilla Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul ahead of the "35th Samsung Hoam Prize Awards Ceremony." As in previous years, he proceeded directly to the event venue without making any public remarks. Chairman Lee has personally overseen the Hoam Prize ceremony for four consecutive years since 2022. This marks his third attendance since becoming chairman. His consistent involvement is seen as an effort to carry on the philosophy of "talent first" and "shared growth," values emphasized by his predecessors, through initiatives such as donations to the Hoam Foundation.

Kim Hwangsik, chairman of the Hoam Foundation, was the first to greet Chairman Lee, and more than 50 presidents from Samsung and its affiliates were in attendance. Key executives also appeared, including Jeon Younghyun, head of the DS division (Vice Chairman) overseeing the semiconductor business, and Roh Taemoon, acting head of the DX division (President), who has been leading the mobile, home appliance, and TV business divisions since last month.
This year's award recipients are: ▲Science Prize (Physics and Mathematics) - Shin Seokwoo, professor at UC Berkeley and distinguished professor at the Korea Institute for Advanced Study; ▲Science Prize (Chemistry and Life Sciences) - Jung Jongkyung, professor at Seoul National University; ▲Engineering Prize - Kim Seungwoo, emeritus professor at KAIST; ▲Medicine Prize - Gloria Choi, professor at MIT; ▲Arts Prize - Koo Bonchang, photographer; and ▲Community Service Prize - Kim Donghae, chairman of Vision Care. He congratulated the awardees, saying, "Through tireless efforts in the fields of academia, arts, and social service, they have contributed to the advancement of science, technology, and culture, and have practiced noble love for humanity."
Meanwhile, the Samsung Hoam Prize was established in 1990 by the late former Samsung Chairman Lee Kunhee to honor the "talent first" and "public interest" philosophy of founder Lee Byungchul, and to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to academic, artistic, social development, and the promotion of human welfare. Including this year's 35th ceremony, a total of 182 recipients have been awarded, with a combined prize amount of 36.1 billion won.
