Voters in Gwangju are actively participating in early voting for the 21st presidential election.


As of 3:00 p.m. on May 30, according to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the early voting rate in Gwangju stood at 46.08%, which is 16.11 percentage points higher than the national average of 29.97%. This is the third highest rate among the 17 major cities and provinces nationwide.


The number of eligible voters in Gwangju is 1,194,471, of which 550,431 have visited early voting stations. Among metropolitan areas, Jeonnam recorded the highest early voting rate nationwide at 50.58%, followed by Jeonbuk at 47.26%, and then Gwangju.


Within Gwangju’s districts, Dong-gu recorded the highest early voting rate at 49.03%, followed by Nam-gu at 49.25%, Seo-gu at 45.88%, Buk-gu at 47.59%, and Gwangsan-gu at 42.08%.


Meanwhile, at the same time (3:00 p.m. on the second day) during the previous 20th presidential election, Gwangju recorded an early voting rate of 40.62%, and during the 19th presidential election, it was 28.32%. In this election, Gwangju’s early voting rate is showing an unprecedentedly high trend.
