Jeollanam-do announced that it received high praise for its pilot operation of the "Island Night Sea Cruise," which offers views of the beautiful island landscapes of Jeonnam such as Geumodo, Narodo, Geomundo, and Baekdo, as well as the night sea stars and moon, and the sunrise at Baekdo, as part of efforts to boost excitement for the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo.
The pilot operation of the Island Night Sea Cruise, the first of its kind in Korea, is being held over four sessions as a one-night, two-day course from May 23 to June 1. Due to growing interest in island cruises, tickets sold out early, and approximately 1,100 passengers departed from Yeosu at 3 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, experiencing a unique journey sailing to Geumodo, Narodo, Geomundo, Baekdo, and other beautiful islands of Jeonnam until 11 a.m. the following day.
On the first day, passengers enjoyed the scenic views of the archipelago islands such as Geumodo, Ando, Yeondo, Narodo, Sonjukdo, and Geomundo, along with a sunset at sea, the beautiful nightscape and starry sky of Yeosu's night sea, fireworks, onboard performances, a dinner buffet, ocean-view cabins, and various cruise services that enhanced overall satisfaction.
On the second day, the journey continued with a departure from Geomundo, moving to a sunrise viewing point to watch the sunrise over the archipelago, before returning to Yeosu New Port.
The cruise ship used for this event, the 22,000-ton PanStar Dream, is equipped with a total of 115 cabins and a variety of amenities, including a convenience store, sauna, massage room, and karaoke room.
One passenger who boarded the cruise said, "I was able to create wonderful memories with my family by enjoying the beautiful islands of the archipelago, the onboard fireworks show, performances, buffet, and ocean-view cabins at an affordable price."
This "Jeonnam Island Night Sea Cruise" also practiced meaningful sharing by offering a 20% discount to Jeonnam Sarangae Supporters and residents, and by providing free boarding experiences to about 100 people from vulnerable groups in the province, such as children in care facilities and single-parent families, in celebration of Family Month.
Kim Youngrok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, stated, "Through this cruise tour, we were able to widely promote the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo and the beautiful islands of the archipelago to tourists visiting Jeonnam," adding, "The Jeonnam Island Night Sea Cruise was a new challenge for developing new business models in Jeonnam's marine tourism industry and revitalizing the local economy."
Jeollanam-do plans to introduce new cruise products themed around islands during the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo, reflecting the results of surveys and performance evaluations from this pilot operation.
