Navy Releases CCTV Footage of Crash
with Consent from Bereaved Families
A video capturing the crash of the P-3CK maritime patrol aircraft during takeoff and landing training in Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province on the 29th has been released.
On the 30th, the Navy released a 1-minute and 27-second CCTV video from the Pohang base to the media. The video was made public with the consent of the bereaved families and shows the aircraft from two different angles, from its takeoff and left turn on the runway until just before the crash.

In the footage, the aircraft takes off from the runway and begins a left turn, but suddenly crashes to the ground in just over 10 seconds. In another angle, the aircraft can be seen banking to one side during the turn, then spinning with its nose pointed toward the ground as it crashes.
At the time of the accident, the aircraft was conducting takeoff and landing training (Touch and Go?touching down on the runway and then taking off again) at Pohang base to improve pilot proficiency. The aircraft had planned a total of three training sessions that day. It took off at 1:43 p.m., completed the first session, and during the left turn after taking off for the second session, crashed into a nearby hill at around 1:49 p.m.
The accident claimed the lives of four crew members: Lieutenant Colonel Park Jinwoo (posthumous rank), Captain Lee Taehun, Master Sergeant Yoon Dongkyu, and Master Sergeant Kang Shinwon. Their funerals will be held with full Navy honors.
