Yoo Simin: "A Position Seol Nanyeong Cannot Handle"
Kim Moonsoo: "Is There Really a Place One Can or Cannot Go in Life?"
On May 30, Kim Moonsoo, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, responded to writer Yoo Simin's comment that his wife, Seol Nanyeong, was "not in her right mind," by stating, "She is an admirable person who has protected me and our family with great love and dedication."
On this day, Kim wrote on his social networking service (SNS) Facebook, "I still remember the day I first met my wife at a labor union meeting," recalling, "Her independence, modesty, and strong will were truly impressive."
He continued, "After we held a modest wedding at a church in Bongcheon-dong, I have spent more than 40 years of my life with my wife. My wife, Seol Nanyeong, was such a capable woman that she was elected as the head of the Sejin Electronics labor union at the age of 25. She was a passionate labor activist who operated a daycare center to help working women."
He added, "During the two and a half years I spent in prison, she silently stayed by my side, giving me hope and courage. She was an excellent mother who ran a bookstore to support our family and raised our only daughter, Dongju, with strong values."
Kim also stated, "In life, is there really a place one can or cannot go? I do not think so. Seol Nanyeong is Kim Moonsoo, and Kim Moonsoo is Seol Nanyeong," he added.
In another Facebook post, Kim wrote, "Please judge the disparagement of women workers' educational backgrounds with your vote."
Previously, on the night of May 28, writer Yoo appeared on the YouTube program "Kim Eo-jun's Dasboeida" and said, "In Seol Nanyeong's view, Kim Moonsoo is an extraordinary person. He is so remarkable that there is no balance between him and me. Through marrying such a man, I have been uplifted, and under these circumstances, it is difficult for her to be critical of her husband."
Yoo also commented, "Kim Moonsoo has become a presidential candidate. It is very difficult to maintain a critical distance from her own husband. Being the spouse of a major party's presidential candidate is a position she cannot handle."
He further stated, "It is a position Seol Nanyeong cannot go to in her life," adding, "That is why she seems to be floating in the air." He continued, "People like us who look at the data say 'the possibility of him becoming president is zero,' but she does not think so. Now, she could even become the First Lady. That is what I meant by saying she is not in her right mind."
