Honam Region Surpasses 40% While Yeongnam Stays in the 20% Range
11.45 Million Out of 44.39 Million Eligible Voters Nationwide
Regional Gap in Voter Turnout Widens

At noon on May 30, the last day of early voting for the 21st presidential election, the nationwide average voter turnout was recorded at 25.79%.


According to the National Election Commission, as of noon, 11,450,121 out of 44,391,871 eligible voters nationwide had participated in early voting.


The nationwide average early voting turnout stands at 25.79%. This is the highest figure for this time slot among all national elections, excluding by-elections and re-elections, since the early voting system was first introduced for a nationwide election in the June 4, 2014 local elections.

So far, the region with the highest voter turnout is Jeonnam at 44.80%. Jeonbuk follows at 41.79%, and Gwangju at 40.56%, indicating an overwhelmingly high participation rate in the Honam region. In the Seoul metropolitan area, Seoul records 25.26% and Gyeonggi 24.24%, both above the national average, while Incheon stands at 24.29%, which is below the average.


The region with the lowest voter turnout is Daegu at 18.20%. Busan follows at 22.37%, Gyeongbuk at 22.89%, and Gyeongnam at 23.02%, showing that the Yeongnam region overall has a voter turnout below the national average.


The early voting, which began on May 29, is being held over two days, concluding today. Voting hours are from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. To participate in early voting, voters must bring a valid ID and visit an early voting station.
