Gochang County to Support Vulnerable Groups with Living, Medical, and Housing Expenses

Promotion of the 'Gochang-type Emergency Welfare Program'

Gochang County in North Jeolla Province is implementing the 'Gochang-type Emergency Welfare Program' for households in crisis within the county.

According to the county on May 30, the 'Gochang-type Emergency Welfare Program' expands support for low-income households in welfare blind spots who are not eligible for assistance under current laws and systems. The program raises the income threshold from the existing government emergency welfare standard of 75% of the median income to within 100%, providing support for living expenses, medical expenses, and housing costs.

By utilizing Gochang County-designated donations from the Community Chest of Korea, households can apply if their general assets meet the government emergency welfare support standard and their financial assets are within 200% of the government standard.

In particular, the program aims to provide a stable living foundation for households facing difficulties due to the death, unemployment, illness of low-income members, or disasters such as fire or flooding. The support will be provided in the form of local gift certificates, which is also expected to help revitalize the local economy.

County Governor Sim Deokseop stated, "We will do our best to ensure that vulnerable groups receive strong protection through the new Gochang-type emergency welfare initiative," and added, "By revising the Gochang County Emergency Welfare Support Ordinance and securing additional budget, we will continue to strive to help residents enjoy stable and comfortable lives through various welfare policies."
